The Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Serious Games & Digital Knowledge at FH Dortmund brings together digital innovation, education, creativity and technology. This interdisciplinary and bilingual degree programme combines the fields of Design, Computer Science and Business Studies to explore how knowledge and skills can be communicated through games and digital media.

The programme is designed around Serious Games, Gamification and digital knowledge and competence transfer. Unlike games created purely for entertainment, Serious Games focus on learning, practising skills and communicating knowledge.

Where Games Meet Knowledge

From digital training and education to science and health, Serious Games can be used to communicate complex subjects in engaging ways. The programme explores how game mechanics, storytelling, educational concepts and technical knowledge can work together to create meaningful learning experiences.

Students develop competencies in Game Design, User Experience Design, User Interface Design, Digital Storytelling, Media Education and Didactics, Game Studies, Computer Science and Business Studies.

The programme can be studied in German or English, with the language selected at the beginning of the programme.

The seven-semester programme is strongly practice-oriented. Application-related project work is supported by theory and science modules, giving students opportunities to work on practical tasks and projects.

Students combine creative visions with technical expertise while learning 2D and 3D Art, UI & UX Design, programming and project management, alongside teaching and learning methods, media theory and Game Studies.
